International career and decision to represent Bangladesh

Hamza Choudhury began his international journey with England, earning his first under-21 cap in May 2018 during the prestigious Toulon Tournament. He featured as a substitute against China and later started in the match against Mexico. Although he stated in 2019 that representing England’s senior team was a major aspiration, his eligibility extended beyond England due to his Bangladeshi and Grenadian heritage.

Switch to Bangladesh

Discussions regarding Choudhury’s potential involvement with Bangladesh surfaced in February 2024 ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Progress was swift: he secured his Bangladeshi passport on August 23, 2024, and received a No Objection Certificate from the English FA on September 24, 2024.
On December 19, 2024, Choudhury formally switched his international allegiance, publicly committing to serve Bangladesh at the highest level for as long as his career permitted.

Bangladesh Debut and Milestones

Choudhury made his long-awaited debut for Bangladesh on March 25, 2025, in a tightly contested 0–0 draw against India during the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. His impact grew rapidly. On June 4, 2025, he scored his first international goal in a 2–0 victory over Bhutan, marking a historic moment as he became the first Premier League player to represent Bangladesh.Through his decision and performances, Hamza Choudhury has emerged as a symbolic figure for Bangladesh football—bridging cultures, inspiring young talents, and redefining what is possible for the nation on the international stage.
